Chichino
Chichino – bringing the groove back!
Brief description – Hotly tipped for success in 2009, Leeds band, Chichino, bring their own brand of upbeat funky pop to the Capital. Fresh out of the studio, Chichino are launching into the year with a series of gigs to promote their debut album, which is due for release in the summer. Having already shared the bill with the likes of Richard Hawley, Sugababes, Corinne Bailey Rae, and the legendary Rose Royce, be sure to catch this band while you still can!
Chichino is the name of the Leeds based band who create and present their contagious fusion of pop funk and soul with an exuberant enthusiasm calculated to push your get-up-and-dance button. The musical references and influences are impeccable, the best in the business: Jamiroquai, The Brand New Heavies, Stevie Wonder, Jools Holland to name a few.
Narelle Brooksbank, whose stylish presence, powerful voice and elegant keyboard skills front the band, recites the names of acid jazz, soul and funk legends with the reverence they deserve, to nods and smiles of agreement from her three fellow band members (the funky backbone of Chichino!), drummer Andre Siron, guitarist Gary Williams and bassist John Fowles.
All over the UK, the band’s reputation is growing fast. They have played at numerous festivals and high profile events over the past couple of years and have been billed alongside many top acts including 70’s superstars Rose Royce, 80’s soul star Jaki Graham, Basshunter and Richard Hawley to name but a few. Top designer Karen Millen personally invited the band to play at her Christmas party in London last year where they supported Mica Paris.
Chichino have also hosted their own radio show “Radio Chichino” which was broadcast daily last May on Leeds Eleven FM. The shows featured the music that influenced Chichino, retro Leeds sounds, Leeds funk & soul music and up-and-coming bands from the South Leeds area.
Recently the band recorded a collaboration with Right Said Fred on a fabulously funky new version of their classic top 5 UK hit ‘Don’t Talk Just Kiss’ and they have just finished recording tracks for their debut album which is due for release this summer.
